Carthagena, Rumley, Wren, and Longtown were among the western Ohio black settlements founded by those hoping to live in freedom and peace in the 1800s. All that remains of those inhabitants today are scattered cemeteries and the occasional historic church or building. What happened to these communities? Why did their settlers vanish?

The St. Marys Community Public Library presents Mary Ann Olding, Architecture Historian and Historic Preservation Consultant, in a fascinating look at this all but forgotten facet of our local history in an online presentation on Thursday, February 25, at 6:00 p.m. Please email the library at stmaryshelp@seolibraries.org to register and obtain Zoom log-in information.
